Renovation Time!

We noticed the other day that our ceiling was leaking just a little bit. That was a little weird considering it hadn't rained in a few days. After some further investigation we figured out that it wasn't water, but something oily. That's more than a little weird, considering it was the ceiling/roof.

We, and by we I mean our landlord, called the complex HOA about the situation. Apparently they're responsible for any outside walls, and this certainly qualified. They came, took a look, and made a diagnosis. The sprinkler system was leaking oil.

Now I don't know about you, but I would expect my sprinkler system to leak water. Definitely not oil. Imagine this scenario: You're apartment somehow catches on fire, and the sprinkler system is forced into action. Only one problem, it's spraying oil everywhere, not water. Next thing you know, three city blocks are gone forever.

Nice.

Dumbest Idea Ever

CNN.com has unveiled quite possibly the dumbest feature ever. For a good percentage of their headlines, you can have a t-shirt made. That way you can immortalize some non-important headline forever and advertise for CNN at the same time.

I'm serious.

Video Central and Some Hockey

Lately it seems like I've been posting a lot of videos, but that's probably because I don't have too much interesting to write about. It seems like I spent the last several weeknights watching the hockey playoffs. Anyway, the Rangers played yesterday (and eventually lost, but that's not the point). I saw something that I had not, nor had anyone else, ever seen before. Sean Avery has been making it his job to annoy Martin Brodeur this year, and yesterday was no exception. Avery would eventually score after all of this, but in the world that is hockey he's pretty lucky the entire Devils team didn't kill him. Check this out:

The NHL, being almost as prude as the NFL, immediately changed the rule. I can't say I've ever seen a rule changed in the middle of a season, but here's what Colin Campbell, the NHL director of hockey operations league douche, said:

"An unsportsmanlike conduct minor penalty will be interpreted and applied, effective immediately, to a situation when an offensive player positions himself facing the opposition goaltender and engages in actions such as waving his arms or stick in front of the goaltender's face, for the purpose of improperly interfering with and/or distracting the goaltender as opposed to positioning himself to try to make a play."

That's the first annoying moment of an otherwise pretty awesome NHL playoffs.

Bill Buckner

So apparently all is forgiven in Boston. Which would be very cool, except for that they would have never done it if they hadn't just won a couple of World Series. Here's a little background. Bill Buckner was famous for essentially giving the Mets the chance to win the World Series in 1986. Thanks for that, by the way. You almost single handedly made me a Mets fan as a five year old. Here's an absolutely fantastic recreation of that event. Seriously, if you ever played Nintendo, watching this video is worth you're entire trip to this blog.

So after screwing that up pretty bad, they finally let him back into Fenway 22 years later. There's a little sarcasm going on here, but this is actually really cool. I'm not sure I've ever seen a longer standing ovation anywhere.

April Fools on the Internets

A bunch of websites took it upon themselves to try and trick the world this April Fools' Day. It's getting to the point now that it couldn't possibly fool anyone, as people wait anxiously for what will happen. Take Google for example. Everyone couldn't wait to see what they'd do. And it wasn't even that cool.

Youtube, on the other hand, had a pretty good one. That might be because no one really expected it. Or it could be because most people had no idea what it was. Youtube thought it would be cool to Rickroll everyone that clicked on any video on their front page. It's really pretty neat. For those of you not familiar with getting Rick Rolled, basically you expect to see something and instead get to watch a video of Rick Astley singing Never Going to Give You Up. For some famous Rickroll examples, check out this Wikipedia article.

See what I did there? Now, seriously, check it out. It looks like even the New York Mets may spend the better part of the year getting Rickrolled. Fantastic.

Music

I spent the better part of this week spending money on entertainment tickets. First up are some pretty decent seats at the Nuggets game this weekend. I've never been to a basketball game, so that will hopefully be fun.

The bigger news though is that we got some tickets for the Mile High Music Festival. It's a two day music festival here in Denver, hence the name. Anyone, day one isn't great but it's headlined by Tom Petty and O.A.R. Then comes day two, featuring these bands and more: Dave Matthews, John Mayer, The Roots, The Black Crowes, Rodrigo y Gabriela, and Flogging Molly. So if you find yourself bored in the middle of July and want to come to Denver, pick up some tickets.
