Goalllllllllllllllllllllllls

A new year brings another chance to make goals and blah blah blah blah. I'm telling you mine since that's the only way I won't get to the end of the year and pretend they never existed. I might even keep track of them in a little widget over on the side. Anyway, here they are:

  1. Biking
    1. Ride 2,000 miles
    2. Complete a century
    3. Cyclocross (TBR)
  2. Cooking
    1. Make cassoulet
    2. Generally figure things out, so that every fifth venture doesn't involve food that is somehow carbonized on the outside and still raw on the inside.
  3. General health
    1. Lose between 10 and 15 pounds. Let me be more specific on this one. Lose about 25 pounds of fatty goodness and gain some of it back as some tissue that might actually help my body someday. This goal is automatically satisfied if I move to Alaska and need the fat to survive a long, cold winter in an igloo.
Good luck to me.

Cheesecake

Our flight back from Nebraska got delayed, so now we leave for Philly tomorrow morning. That means you get some food ramblings from me. The most recent issue of the Cornell Alumni magazine, aptly titled Cornell Alumni Magazine featured an article on some alumni that owns a famous cheesecake restaurant in New York (it turns out you can sustain a business on cheesecake). Since I've become food obsessed, I made it almost immediately. And then I made it again. It's very good, and you'll agree if:

  1. You like traditional New York cheesecake, or
  2. You went to Cornell, or
  3. You like food, or
  4. You're alive

DTW

We had a brief layover in the Detroit airport on Friday, and it wasn't very pleasant. Our plane arrived about 20 minutes late, which meant our layover was only going to be 25 minutes. So we got off the plane as fast as possible, and started to our next gate. And then we kept going. And kept going. It turns out our gates were as far away as possible from each other. Seriously, take a look.

Our departing plane turned out to be late as well, so everything turned out all right. Except for that now I was annoyed with both planes. And tired. What's the moral of the story? Non-competitive physical activity isn't really that great.

Kendra and I came to Nebraska for Christmas, and James was able to join us. And he brought his blog! Click here for some poetic action.

School Pride!

Notice that the title of this post isn't University, or even College, Pride. It's school pride, as in the School of Applied and Engineering Physics. It was rated the best program of it's kind in the country again this year.

I say this not so much to be arrogant and obnoxious to the general public, but to the Cornell CS, ME, EE, and MSE people who didn't actually believe me about the program was hard and instead opted for the 'Mike's just not that smart' line of reasoning.

Not that those people would necessarily be wrong.
